Non-profit organization Public Citizen questions TRUMP's foreign payment risk
According to Golden Finance News, the US government, corporations, and consumer watchdog Public Citizen have called for a federal investigation into whether Trump's launch of Memes violates laws prohibiting solicitation of gifts, and are concerned about untraceable foreign payments. Public Citizen on Wednesday filed a formal complaint with the Department of Justice and the Office of Government Ethics, alleging that Trump's social media posts were used to promote the TRUMP token after taking office in January. The Department of Justice, the Office of Government Ethics, and Public Citizen did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Bartlett Naylor and Craig Holman of Public Citizen wrote in the complaint that Trump appears to be "soliciting money without consideration, that is, soliciting gifts that would benefit him personally." The lawsuit lists several legal issues surrounding Trump's promotion of memes, involving multiple overlapping areas of federal law, constitutional provisions, and ethical standards.
