Bottlenecks in Web3 Development: User Experience Abstracted as the Key Breakthrough
Web3 Development Bottlenecks: Challenges of User Experience and Solutions
While Web3 technology has made significant progress, the biggest obstacle it currently faces is not insufficient infrastructure, but a lack of user experience. This issue is quite similar to the early stages of internet development. For the average user, the experience of using decentralized applications remains quite cumbersome, which has become a major factor hindering its widespread adoption.
As cryptocurrencies gradually gain institutional recognition and the advancement of related regulatory frameworks, the key constraint on the development of Web3 has shifted from infrastructure to usability. To address this issue, the industry has proposed the concept of user experience abstraction, aimed at systematically hiding the underlying complexity of blockchain interactions from end users.
This process can be divided into three stages:
Shallow user experience improvements: Mainly through interface optimization to reduce operational steps, such as integrating cross-chain bridge functions and providing multiple link-in services. However, users still need to understand the concepts and operations of different blockchains.
Execution Layer Abstraction: Utilizing technologies such as ERC-4337 and Gas abstraction, allowing users to not worry about Gas fees on each chain. At the same time, introducing an intent-based architecture, enabling users to only express their goals, while the system automatically completes complex operations.
Complete Conceptual Abstraction: This is the highest level of abstraction, where users are completely unaware of the existence of blockchain. Super wallets and AI-driven applications will provide a streamlined experience similar to Web2, where users only need to express their intentions to obtain results.
Nevertheless, even at the highest level of abstraction, there are still some limitations. For example, smart wallets may not support certain blockchains, or users may still need to understand certain financial terms. Overcoming these barriers requires developers to adopt a completely new way of thinking, prioritizing user needs over infrastructure in their designs.
User experience abstraction is crucial for the future of Web3. It can break down barriers between different protocols and chains, simplifying complex operations and making the experience of using cryptocurrencies closer to modern Web2 products. However, abstraction is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Different user groups may require different levels of abstraction, so supporting multi-layered abstraction will ensure that Web3 can scale inclusively.
Looking to the future, the direction of Web3 should be a "chainless" user experience. This requires not only technological breakthroughs but also developers to focus on user outcomes in their designs, placing user experience at the core. Only in this way can we truly realize the vision of users being able to easily use decentralized applications without needing to understand blockchain.
