Bitcoin City, a circular metropolis whose project was presented by El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele in 2021, raises the idea of building the city in which every bitcoiner in the entire world dreams of living.
The initiative, designed in a circular shape with a bitcoin "B" in the center, would be provided with geothermal energy and almost tax-free (with the exception of VAT). It would have offices for the development of industry, the museum of money, and a circular economy based on digital currency.
Some went so far as to catalog Bukele's project as a utopia and, although little is known if the plans are moving forward for it to one day become a reality, the truth is that an American bitcoiner is making preparations to live in what could one day become Bitcoin City.
However, a few kilometers away from the place selected for the development of the project presented by Bukele, there is a community that works with the idea of turning their city into what they call, "the real Bitcoin City".
The proposal took its first steps in May of this year and in a short time they managed to get 30 merchants to accept bitcoin (BTC) as a form of payment.
"Now, five months after that takeoff, many businesses and entrepreneurs are coming to us to guide them to accept cryptocurrency payments," said Gerardo Linares, one of the founders of the community project called Bitcoin Berlin.
In conversation with Mike Peterson, founder of Bitcoin Beach in El Zonte, Linares gave details about the project they launched in the mountain town of Berlin, located in the department of Usulután, in eastern El Salvador.
Bitcoin Berlin, seeks to follow in the footsteps of Bitcoin Beach of El Zonte, the community that inspires many others to establish an economy without fiat money, only based on peer-to-peer electronic cash, or bitcoin citadel.
However, the Salvadoran city of Berlin does not have beaches for surfing, the sport that attracts many tourists to El Zonte. On the contrary, the town founded by German immigrants, nestled in the northern and mountainous area of the department of Usulután, under the foothills of the Tecapa volcano mountain range, has other tourist attractions.
