Right-wing Crypto Assets and Left-wing Artificial Intelligence: Reflections on the Thoughts Behind Vance's Speech

At the Bitcoin conference, Vance proposed the "Crypto Assets Rightist Theory" and the "Artificial Intelligence Leftist Theory."

I have never been very interested in this conference attended by politicians and businessmen, because you can easily guess what they will say.

But Vance's speech at the conference was a blow to me.

Deep Tide published the full translation of this speech. This speech quoted three points that refreshed my perspective and resonated strongly with me:

• "Crypto Assets are essentially conservative or right-wing technology, while artificial intelligence is inherently left-wing or centralized technology."
• "Many smart right-wing tech talents are attracted by Bitcoin, while many smart left-wing tech talents are devoted to AI."
• "I do not wish for the development of AI to have a negative impact on the national interests of the United States. The best way to ensure that intelligent and visionary individuals are involved in this AI dialogue is to make the Bitcoin community a part of the AI conversation."

Right-wing and Left-wing

Before sharing my views, let me first introduce the Western traditional definitions of the right and left.

In a more general way:

The right advocates for a small government, values individual effort, and promotes a free economy, while being highly vigilant against centralization, control, and intervention. The right is also referred to as conservatives.

The left advocates for a large government, values government control over society, and promotes government intervention in the economy. The left is also known as the liberal.

In modern society, pure right-wing and left-wing ideologies no longer exist; there is just a difference of being a bit more right or a bit more left.

The viewpoint that Bitcoin attracts the right while artificial intelligence attracts the left, as quoted by Vance, immediately reminds me of some very typical figures in these two ecosystems.

One of the pioneers of Bitcoin, Wei Dai, buried a seed in his heart after witnessing his grandfather's tragic experiences during the Cultural Revolution: the hope of using technology to create a society where individuals are free from the oppression of power.

Satoshi Nakamoto has taken every possible measure to conceal his whereabouts online, leaving no trace.

Observations on the Values of the Crypto Ecosystem

Among the friends I've interacted with in the crypto ecosystem over the years, I've noticed an interesting phenomenon: whenever the conversation goes deeper, I can often guess their values and thus their true attitude towards Bitcoin. And when I carefully ask them about their operations regarding Bitcoin, I almost always find a common point:

Participants who hold strong right-leaning views almost invariably cling to a portion of Bitcoin. Although they may engage in swing trading, there is always a portion they keep and never sell. Regarding this practice of holding onto some without selling, they all excitedly say it is a tribute to Satoshi Nakamoto.

Therefore, I have always believed that investing in the crypto ecosystem is unlikely to yield substantial returns without the support of values. I don't believe that Zhao Changpeng selling his house to buy Bitcoin is purely for business considerations, without any belief or values as support and motivation.

Artificial Intelligence and encryption technology

My impression of the participants in artificial intelligence is almost entirely encompassed by Ultraman. His close cooperation with the U.S. government and the project requiring participants to exchange their irises for tokens vividly reflect this person's worship of power and desire for control.

Another typical figure in the tech circle, sharing the same level as Ultraman, is Zuckerberg.

Most articles and media praising artificial intelligence in the market are almost immersed day and night in the joy brought by this technology's rapid advancements in efficiency and user experience, with very few expressing concerns about the consequences for humanity if artificial intelligence were to fall into the hands of malevolent forces.

Most articles and media in the market that look down on encryption technology almost invariably only discuss its shortcomings and uselessness in terms of efficiency, costs, etc. They never understand the great significance of encryption technology for humanity in achieving financial freedom and breaking free from centralized control.

There have been several times I was curious and found a few other articles by authors of this type, and I almost always found that they were inherently filled with that kind of elite's sense of controlling the masses and the pleasure of crawling under power.

Only in the encryption ecosystem do I see explorers like Vitalik constantly exploring which aspects to work on to achieve as much decentralization as possible, and which aspects to improve in order to find ways for Ethereum to survive attacks from powerful sovereign nations.

About two years ago, I wrote in an article that once when I attended a roadshow in Hong Kong, I saw a foreign team propose a method of training artificial intelligence using decentralized datasets. Although that solution had many problems and did not seem very mature, such thinking and perspectives are mostly seen only in the Crypto Assets ecosystem.

Of course, the top players in artificial intelligence technology will also pay attention to encryption technology. Ultraman has issued his world coin and layer two expansion, while Zuckerberg is also eager to restart his stablecoin plan. However, their core purpose is not for the freedom of humanity, but to control more users, more resources, and provide more value for their ecosystem.

These two types of people are fundamentally different.

Perhaps this is what Vance quoted: "Many smart right-wing tech talents are attracted to Bitcoin, while many smart left-wing tech talents are devoted to AI."

In the previous article, I also shared my expectation for the best scenario of the combination of AI + Crypto: that is, to use the decentralized method of encryption technology to decentralize the computing power and data of artificial intelligence, so that the revolutionary invention of artificial intelligence will not be controlled by a centralized organization. Only in this way can it truly benefit all mankind and become a great invention that mankind is proud of; Otherwise, it is likely to create a catastrophe and become a weapon of destruction for humanity.

What Vance expressed in his speech is a hope that AI does not have a negative impact on the United States, and he hopes that the Bitcoin community will embrace AI, which is exactly the way I expect these two technologies to combine.

The viewpoints cited by Wans in my opinion are the best interpretation of the values represented by the two technologies of encryption and artificial intelligence, as well as the best explanation of the complementarity of these two technologies.

My inherent impression of politicians is that they only speak lies, clichés, and empty words, but Vance was surprisingly able to quote/express such brilliant views, which really caught me off guard.

A person without a background in engineering and technology can understand the values behind these two cutting-edge technologies to this extent, which surpasses the vast majority of participants in these two ecosystems.

I now somewhat understand why Peter Thiel from Silicon Valley has been funding Vance for a long time and has been tirelessly supporting him.

If such a person becomes the President of the United States in the future, then encryption technology and artificial intelligence will only accelerate wildly in that land.
